Thanks to all those folks out there sending in submissions, keep them coming. In other news I've added a blog which you can access here. I must warn you that most of it's not Unreal related, so avoid if you're one who gets bored easily.

I've put this off a for a while now, and I appolgise for that. What we've got here is a rather original piece from Bot40. The setting's somewhat reminecent of FarCry's fantastic outside scenes, but even so it does look fresh.
The attention to detail is simply overwhealming, a quick look at the trim and you'll notice he's really gone to great lengths, in some ways maybe a bit overboard (But, who cares right?). Lighting is sound, although in some ways maybe a tad washed out in the central area. The water is truely to die for, mappers make sure you take note if you plan to go down the same track theme wise.
The maps floorplan is rather straight forward, plenty of paths between bases, some sneakier than others. I personally liked the lift jump near the flag up to the top cave, I seemed to last longer up there. The map can quite easily fit two teams of eight, although it does get a bit crazy at times. A solid effort from Bot40, add it to your collection if you haven't already done so. |

Thanx by DrDeath - 2004-08-28
Thanx for fulfilling my request Sparky....Ive been a fan of Bot40's work for a while now....man this map rocks, even if someone is stuck with WinXP, 128 RAM, and no video card(except 32MB AGP)...the visuals are stunning and gameplay is top notch....this is a REALLY good map...

KillBillyBarn by Sparky - 2004-08-27
I understand where you're coming from, but I actually enjoyed KillbillBarn to a certain degree. I'm guessing the end result had more to do with the gametype rather than the actual map quality. DM always wins, well almost always.

I pulled myself away from Doom 3 long enough to notice that one of the better UT2003 maps, Nirvana, is back in UT2004 flavor. There's been a few changes, most dramatic is that the snows been replaced with a rather bright and somewhat welcomed setting. I do think this was a change for the better as it's far easier to see what's going on, but in some ways the mood has been removed which is a shame. There's no denying Rogelio has a strong artistic sense, you only have to take a look at the custom static mesh use to notice that. On all it's an extremely solid map, but it does run a little on the dog-slow side if your system's not quite up to par. You have been warned! |

Stunning by VerMoorD - 2004-08-05
It's lost a bit of its atmosphere by taking the snow out, but its still a stunning and beautiful piece of work. great job Rog!!!

Mick's certaintly no novice when it comes to UnrealEd and his latest map, Sanctum2-SE shows this without a doubt. Sanctum2-SE is a rather large map, I can see it being rather boring 1 vs 1, so get at least 6-12 players and things might start to get interesting.
It's got a killer theme, plenty of custom static meshes, top-notch lighting and the texture work is virtually flawless. I personally love the water effect being cast on the walls within the narrow corridoor, looks neat! Above all this, it actually plays rather well too, but maybe a bit too powerup friendly (I guess the size could account for this though). Give it a go! |

Oh boy, where to start? Firstly I know what you're thinking. It's a piece of art, how could it possibly play well? I'm here to tell you, you are wrong, well the bit about how it plays anyway. Don't believe me? Give it a go for yourself!
Aristocracy first debuted in UT2003 and is back and better than ever. Why is that? Well, obviously UT2004 plays a hell of a lot better than that of last years game, so of course it's going to have a large effect on how it plays. The custom static meshes really bring this map to life, lighting is also a top notch effort. Look, give it a go if you haven't already *storms out of the room*.

DM-CBP2-Kerosene by Taz in CBP2 (not sure which volume) is also a great map - bit underappreciated IMO, also custom and plays good. Skilled man Mr. Taz...

Frank seems to be the only guy out there having a crack at the Unreal 1 Universe theme and does he have a knack for it. Every time I load up one of his maps I get this warm and rather funny feeling in my heart that takes me back, back to the days of Unreal and it’s truly awesome atmosphere. Naelir is rather straightforward map. It comprises of a rather large mid-field, two rather large bases which have multiple entrances, and the outskirts of the map provide cliff faces which lead you directly between flags. The cliff faces were my route of choice, although it does take a little longer when you’ve got the flag. Naelir’s faultless, I personally couldn’t find anything wrong with it, and being that it’s a competition entry this can only be a good thing. Good one, Frank! |
